NEWS & NOTES

THOMAS AND ROGERS NAMED TO THE PRO BOWL: Cleveland Browns DT Shaun Rogers and LT Joe Thomas were named to the 2008 AFC Pro Bowl roster on Tuesday. Thomas was named the starter at left tackle for the AFC. Thomas has started all 14 games at left tackle this season for the Browns. Thomas will make his second consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl after his rookie showing in 2007.

In addition, Joshua Cribbs was named first alternate as returner and first alternate as special teams players. Browns K Phil Dawson was named second alternate, while LB D’Qwell Jackson and LG Eric Steinbach were named third alternate at their respective positions.

BROWNS TIED FOR LEAGUE LEAD IN INTERCEPTIONS: The Browns are tied for the NFL lead with 22 interceptions. Cleveland has recorded two or more interceptions in eight games this season, the most since the 2001 club totaled two or more in 10 games. The 22 interceptions is the second highest total since the team returned in 1999. In 2001 the team set a club record with 33 interceptions. DB

In his first season with the Browns, Rogers leads all defensive linemen on the club with 72 tackles, including 51 solo. Rogers also leads the Browns with four and one-half sacks, 15 quarterback pressures, seven tackles for loss and has also blocked two kicks. This will mark Rogers third appearance in the Pro Bowl, as he was previously named to the Pro Bowl with Detroit following the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

Brandon McDonald is tied for second in the NFL and leads the team with five interceptions, while DB Eric Wright, S Sean Jones, DB Brodney Pool and LB D’Qwell Jackson each have three. The last time the Browns had five or more players record three or more interceptions in one season came in 2001 when five players accomplished the feat.

NFL TEAM INTERCEPTION LEADERSTeam INT Yds. Avg. Long TD1. Cleveland 22 403 18.3 98 2 Baltimore 22 397 18.0 107t 53.
BROWNS ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES: The Cleveland Browns placed TE Steve Heiden and LB Beau Bell on the Reserve-Injured list. The Browns signed free agent TE John Madsen to the active roster and have signed WR Paul Hubbard from the practice squad to the active roster. The club also signed LB David Holloway to the practice squad.

Madsen, 6-5 and 240 lbs., played four games earlier this year with the Oakland Raiders. A three-year veteran, Madsen has played in 35 career games, including five starts, with the Raiders and has 19 receptions for 248 yards and two touchdowns.

Hubbard, 6-2 and 225 lbs., was the Browns sixth round draft choice, 191st overall, in the 2008 NFL Draft. Hubbard has spent the entire season on the club’s practice squad.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOMEric Steinbach(On the two remaining games)- “Being 4-10 right now with two games left, the good news is that both are rival games. Without a doubt everyone in this locker room will be excited to play both the Bengals and the Steelers. There will be no question there will be high energy in practice this week, which we always do preparing, and going out and playing those teams.”

(On comparing the Browns and Bengals seasons)- “Both teams had high expectations at the beginning of the year and it hasn’t gone that way for either squad. Hopefully we can try to build off these four wins and the next two weeks to try to get a couple more.”

Ken Dorsey(On the Bengals defense)- “I think they have improved a lot since the last time we played them. They are playing pretty good defense right now. They are stout against the run. Their corners are making plays in the passing game. They have got a good scheme. I think they are going through things like we are, but they are playing good football right now. They are coming off a big win against Washington last week. I think they are feeling good and we are going to have a good challenge in front of us.”

(On the loss of Steve Heiden)- “For one, he is a great player. Not having him out there from that aspect is difficult. Two, just the leadership he brings on the field and in the locker room and the knowledge he brings of the game. He has seen a lot of football, played a lot of football. I think we have got guys who are going to step up and play well. Definitely not having him or Kellen (Winslow) it’s never easy.”

Joe Thomas(On making the Pro Bowl twice with it being most a name recognition thing for lineman)- “It’s sort of a lucky thing, obviously you have got to play well to make the Pro Bowl, but as a lineman we don’t have stats. A lot of times you have got to be associated with good quarterbacks, good running backs, winning teams and things like that. You look at a guy like Eric Steinbach who has never really got the Pro Bowl recognition has he deserves.”

Shaun Rogers(On making the Pro Bowl)- “It’s just a blessing. It’s nice that your peers think of you as one of the better guys at your position. It’s kind of a reflection of our defense. We battle and it doesn’t always look good, but I still think we are a pretty good defense with room for improvement. Overall that kind of puts the heel in the dirt and sets a foundation for us.”

Braylon Edwards (On Cincinnati)- “I have to worry about Cincinnati, who is playing a lot better then they did the last time we played them, and just trying to win. It’s still a divisional game. We still have pride about our season. We are definitely trying to finish strong against them and Pittsburgh in a week.”

Kellen Winslow(On playing next week)- “I am going to try. I am not saying I am going to play but I am definitely going to try to come back as soon as I can.”

Joshua Cribbs(On being disappointed for not being selected to the Pro Bowl)- “Very, but we are playing the Bengals so I am more worried about that. I am going to hold off on my disappointment until after the season.”– BROWNS –

Earlier this year, this Browns downed the Giants 35-14 on Oct. 13 and the Bills 29-27 on Nov. 17. With a victory, the Browns would become just the 15th team in NFL history to go 3-0 on MNF in a single season. The last time a team posted a 3-0 mark on Monday Night Football came in 2005 when both Indianapolis and Atlanta accomplished the feat. The Browns are 6-1 all-time vs. NFC teams on MNF. Monday’s contest will mark Cleveland’s first NFC road game on MNF in team history.

BROWNS ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES: The Browns signed RB Allen Patrick from the practice squad to the active roster, and signed TE Jed Collins to the practice squad.

Patrick, 6-1 and 200 lbs., has spent the last 13 weeks on the Browns practice squad. Patrick signed with Baltimore as an undrafted rookie free agent this past spring and was waived by the Ravens at the end of training camp. A native on Conway, S.C., Patrick played collegiate football at Oklahoma.

DEFENSE GETTING TURNOVERS: With a +8 turnover ratio, the Browns rank tied for fourth in the NFL. The Browns defense forced three turnovers against the Titans on Dec. 7. DL Corey Williams forced a fumble that DB Eric Wright recovered and LB D’Qwell Jackson intercepted two passes, a single game career high. The Browns have forced 12 turnovers in the last four games. For the season, the Browns have totaled 19 interceptions and have recovered seven fumbles.

In 2001 the team set a club record with 33 interceptions. DB Eric Wright, DB Brandon McDonald, DB Brodney Pool and LB D’Qwell Jackson lead the squad with three interceptions each. The last time the Browns had four or more players record three or more interceptions in one season came in 2001 when five players totaled three or more.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOMKellen Winslow(On returning from injury)- “I can come back, but I want to be healthy enough to help my team win. I don’t want to just be out there to be out there. I want to help me team win.”

(On wanting to play)- “My teammates are out there and it’s hard to watch. I want to be out there with them, but also I want to be healthy enough to come back. Also, to get out there with Dorsey and the guys in the huddle.”

(On the season)- “It’s been a tough year all around. The stuff that has happened to me this year, it just hasn’t gone my way. I am going to continue to fight and try to be a consistent player.”

Ken Dorsey(On Philadelphia)- “They are a great defense. Not only are they great schematically but great personnel wise. They have been giving offenses fits for many years now. That’s part of the fun and excitement of playing Philadelphia.”

(On playing in Philadelphia on Monday night)- “It’s going to be a challenge that’s for sure, anytime you play on the road. They have got a great crowd behind them every year. It’s going to pose some challenges for us.”

(On getting hit a lot last week)- “I think getting hit is part of this game. It’s bound to happen. No matter who it is a wide receiver, running back, quarterback, offense or defense if you have got the ball in your hand they are going to try to hit you. Naturally you want to limit that but at the same time it’s just part of the game.”

Brandon McDonald(On the Eagles)- “(Donovan) McNabb is a great quarterback. They’ve got a great receiver in (DeSean) Jackson, a fast guy who can do different things. They have a good defense, a lockdown corner in (Asante) Samuel. It’s going to be a tough win just like it is every week. They are hungry. They are fighting for a playoff spot. They are definitely going to come out with their ‘A’ game.”

(On Brain Westbrook)- “He is a versatile guy. He does so much for their offense. He can get out, run routes and catch passes. One-on-one with a linebacker is sort of a mismatch for most teams. He is just a play maker.”

INJURY REPORT

CLEVELAND: OUT WILL NOT PLAY: TE Kellen Winslow (ankle); DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN PRACTICE: RB Charles Ali (ribs); LIMATED PARTIPATION IN PRACTICE: LB Beau Bell (knee), TE Darnell Dinkins (ankle), DT Shaun Smith (calf), WR Syndric Steptoe (ankle), DE Corey Williams (shoulder).

TENNESSEE: DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN PRACTICE: CB Cortland Finnegan (hamstring), CB Nicholas Harper (ankle), QB Vince Young (right thumb).

NEWS & NOTES

UPCOMING MILESTONES FOR LEWIS: With 9,898 career yards, RB Jamal Lewis sits 102 yards away from 10,000. Lewis ranks 24th on the NFL’s all-time career rushing list. Lewis also needs 207 yards on the ground to become the first Browns running back to gain 1,000-yards rushing in back-to-back seasons since Mike Pruitt during the 1980 and ’81 seasons.

DORSEY MAKES FIRST START SINCE 2005: QB Ken Dorsey will be making his first start as a member of the Browns and only his third appearance since joining the club in 2006. Dorsey’s last start came as a member of the San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 27, 2005 at Tennessee. In that contest, Dorsey set career highs with 23 attempts and 43 completions and added one touchdown and two interceptions in a 33-22 setback to the Titans.

BROWNS ADD QB GRADKOWSKI: Earlier this week the Browns signed QB Bruce Gradkowski after placing QB Derek Anderson on the Reserve-Injured list. The Browns also signed WR Steve Sanders to the practice squad and waived OL Travis Leffew from the practice squad.

Gradkowski, 6-1 and 220 lbs., has appeared in 17 career games, including 11 starts, during his two-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gradkowski has completed 190 of 352 passes for 1,791 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was originally a sixth-round choice by Tampa Bay in the 2006 NFL Draft out of Toledo. As a rookie in 2006, Gradkowski was 177 of 328 passing for 1,661 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions.

UNDER 300: The Browns defense has limited four opponents under 300 yards of total offense this season. Cleveland held Pittsburgh to 281 yards on Sept. 14, Baltimore to 273 yards on Sept. 21, Cincinnati to 211 yards on Sept. 28 and Indianapolis to 215 yards on Nov. 30. In 2007, the Browns only held three opponents under 300 yards all season.

UNDER 300 YARDS OF TOTAL OFFENSE IN 2008Date Opponent Total yards Result9/14/08 Pittsburgh 273 L, 6-109/21/08 at Baltimore 273 L, 10-289/28/08 at Cincinnati 211 W, 20-1211/30/08 Indianapolis 215 L, 6-10

DAWSON ON POINT: K Phil Dawson has connected on a field goal in a career best 12 consecutive games, including two field goals against Indianapolis on Nov. 30. The last game Dawson did not record a field goal was Dec. 23, 2007 at Cincinnati. Dawson is 26-of-30 on field goal attempts this season. His 26 field goals made ranks fourth in the NFL.

With his 26 field goals this season, Dawson is the only Brown to have at least 26 field goals three times during his career. The 10th-year pro was successful on 26 field goals in 2007 and 27 in 2005. Dawson is one field goal from tying his career high of 27 field goals made set during the 2005 season.

17 OR LESS: The Cleveland defense has allowed 17 or fewer points in seven of its 12 games this season. Last season, the Browns defense allowed 17 or fewer points in four games. The Browns defense ranks ninth in the league in points allowed with an average of 20.6 points per game.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM

Braylon Edwards(On the Titans)- “They are a good team. I’ve watched them on film. Their defensive line is pretty unreal. They are doing some great things up there getting to the quarterback, putting pressure on the quarterback. It’s another dog fight, another day in the NFL.”

(On what the game means)- “I think what this is for us is a chance to show our character. It is a chance to show what kind of team we are, what kind of guys we are. We’re pretty much out of the playoff race, but we still want to go out there and we still want to win. We still want to compete and show this team that we are not quitters and we are not giving up on anything.”

(On Ken Dorsey)- “He knows the offense the best out of the quarterbacks here. He is on it, he knows his stuff. He knows where the ball should go at all times. That definitely will help him as well as help us. He is an NFL quarterback. He studied under (Rob) Chud(zinski) and he does extra studying with Chud to make sure the plays are right for Derek (Anderson) and Brady (Quinn). That is one advantage that we do have is that he knows this offense next to Chud probably better than anybody.”

Donte’ Stallworth(On Tennessee)- “They have been playing pretty well with their record showing that. It’s going to be a big challenge for us. I’ve talked about their corners and they have got a couple guys that are making plays. (Cortland) Finnegan is making some plays and you have got that front seven that is pretty good as well.”

(On playing with Albert Haynesworth in college)- “He was always one of the better players on the team. He is a high motor guy. He will be really excited, that is just how he plays. He is a load. I am sure those guys up front will take care of him though.”

Shaun Rogers(On Rogers and Albert Haynesworth being the two best nose tackles in the AFC)- “I’m sure he would appreciate and I do appreciate that compliment, but his job is to affect our offense and mine is to affect his. I am not battling it out with Haynesworth. I am more worried about Smash and Dash (running backs Chris Johnson and LenDale White) I think that is what they call themselves.”

(On the running backs)- “One guy can hit the home run with his speed. The other guy wears you down. He is a base hitter and he is going to keep hitting you and keep hitting you until he breaks one. Those guys compliment each other very well. They have had some good success this year, hopefully we can slow them down.”

Bartel, 6-3 and 233 lbs., spent one week earlier this season on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad after spending the entire 2007 on the Cowboys practice squad. Bartel, after a brief baseball career in the Cincinnati Reds system, finished his collegiate career at Tarleton State.

DAWSON HITS AGAIN: K Phil Dawson has connected on a field goal in a career best 11 consecutive games, including two field goals against Houston on Nov. 23. The last game Dawson did not record a field goal was Dec. 23, 2007 at Cincinnati. After connecting on a pair of 32-yard field goals in the first half against the Texans, Dawson had a streak of 15 consecutive field goals made snapped on a fourth quarter 39-yard field goal that he missed wide left. Dawson is 24-of-27 on field goal attempts this season.

Dawson connected on a career-high 56-yard game-winning field goal with 1:39 remaining against the Bills on Nov. 17. The field goal was the fourth longest in Browns history and the fifth of the contest for Dawson. The kick marked the 12th career game-winner for Dawson. Playing in his 150th career game, Dawson connected on his 200th career field goal with his first field goal of the game in the first quarter. Dawson became the first player in Browns history to convert a 50+ yard field goal in three consecutive games.

DEFENSE GETTING TURNOVERS: With a +5 turnover ratio, the Browns rank tied for seventh in the NFL. The Browns recorded two interceptions against the Texans on Nov. 23 with DBs Sean Jones andBrodney Pooleach registering interceptions. Cleveland has totaled 15 interceptions on the season with DB Eric Wright and Pool leading the squad with three each. Cleveland has also recovered five fumbles.

HOSTING THE LAST THREE SUPER BOWL CHAMPS: Cleveland will play the last three defending Super Bowl Champions at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Browns defeated the N.Y. Giants (2007) 35-14 on Oct. 13. Cleveland will face Indianapolis (2006) on Nov. 30 at 1:00 p.m. The Browns dropped a 10-6 decision against Pittsburgh (2005) on Sunday, Sept. 14.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOMBrady Quinn(On if he decided to have surgery or wear a splint)- “I have not yet. It is something that I am praying about a lot and trying to get a chance for my family to talk about it as well and figure what is going to be best.”

(On the decision to play last week)- “There was a collaborative effort going into it. We had talked about the course of action we were going to take going into the game. That was something that was my decision to go ahead and play. That was one of the options at that point. I did the best I could to make the best of it.”

(On if he regrets playing)- “Not at all, why would I ever regret playing? I knew that it was a consequence if I went in there and played and that was something I was willing to risk. If I had a chance to do it over I would do it again.”

Derek Anderson(On being the starter again)- “Obviously it’s an opportunity that we have. Every opportunity I get I am thankful for that. I going to go out and do what we can to win some games.”

(On staying prepared)- “I never really lost focus. I never quit doing my job. Knowing the situation, this is a good example and here we go.”

(On Peyton Manning)- “He is a great quarterback with a lot of great weapons. He won a Super Bowl. I’ve watched some things they do. He has played 10-11 years and he is a guy growing up I kind of paid attention to.”

Kellen Winslow(On if he feels for Brady Quinn)- “Yes. He can’t play and when you can’t play it hurts. We have just got to move on. (We are) 4-7 and see what we can do from here.”

(On what he saw in Brady Quinn)- “He is real calm, real confident. I just think he is going to be a good quarterback for a long time in this league.”

(On the Indianapolis offense)- “They do what they are good at and they stick to it. They have been a prolific offense for a long time. The defense has to worry about that, luckily we (the offense) don’t have to worry about that. We on offense have to get going. The defense has been doing their job for the most part and the offensive side of the ball hasn’t. We have got to get going.”

QUINN ENGINEERS FIRST CAREER WIN: QB Brady Quinn picked up his first career win as a starting quarterback with the Browns 29-27 victory over Buffalo on Nov. 17. Quinn led the Browns on a 7-play 28 yard drive which resulted in K Phil Dawson’s 56-yard game winning field goal with 1:39 remaining. Quinn finished 14-of-36 for 185 yards.

Quinn also engineered the Browns longest drive of the season when he drove the team 96 yards on 12 plays in the second quarter. On the drive, Quinn went 4-of-5 for 62 yards. WR/KR Joshua Cribbs capped off the drive with a two-yard TD plunge.

HARRISON HELPS BIG NIGHT ON THE GROUND: The Browns rushed for a season-high 161 yards as RB Jerome Harrison rushed for a career-high 80 yards on 3 carries, including his first career rushing TD on a 72-yard scamper on the first play of the fourth quarter. RB Jamal Lewis added 18 carries for 65 yards and Joshua Cribbs added his first career rushing TD on a 2 yard score. Harrison’s 72-yard sprint was the longest touchdown run by a Brown since RB Reuben Droughns went 75-yards for a score against Miami on Nov. 20, 2005.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOMBraylon Edwards(On his rhythm with Brady Quinn)- “He is coming into his own, learning the system and getting more comfortable back there. Having (Kellen Winslow), Jamal (Lewis) and myself in there, he is just relaxing and letting the game come to him.”

(On winning at home)- “We have got to start making plays at home. We have the opportunities, we have been in the situation where we could have gotten victories at home, but we are not finishing or at least we didn’t finish those games. We have got to come out and play four quarters worth of football. Football is not always pretty as you saw on Monday night but if you finish and stay the course you win ball games.”

Jamal Lewis(On not having a 100-yard game this season)- “Opportunities have to present themselves in order to get that. At the same time you have to be able to get those carries in order to get those numbers. I was always taught if you get 25 carries a game and get 4 yards a carry, there’s 100 yards. I’m not complaining about it. I am not looking for it. If it comes it comes, but at the same time I just hope we can execute well.”

(On Jerome Harrison)- “I think we compliment each other very well. With me being a power back and I can also have breakaway speed to get away and make the home run. With him, you can’t approach him the same way you approach me as far as tackling, the scheme and what you try to do to stop his progress. Its two different styles, he is more of a scat back. He is smaller and a quick back and it’s different.”

Brady Quinn(On where he can improve)- “I think overall just passing efficiency. I think that’s something that hurt us in the game. Also communication on different things. If you look back at the green zone for us, (we) didn’t really convert as much as we’d like to. Obviously we were getting field goals but we want touchdowns. Third down efficiency, just need to pick up a few things here and there.”

(On what the win vs. Buffalo meant)- “My confidence has always been there. I think the biggest thing is it told our team that we came back and kept fighting. We came through with a victory and it is something we needed to get done.”

(On his injury)- “Basically I am sure you guys have heard what Romeo said, I banged up my finger Monday night. I think it was the first quarter. I hit it again later in the second quarter. At this point it is a little sore. I practiced yesterday, (I am) practicing today. We are just doing the best we can to take a little precaution and make sure it’s alright and that’s pretty much it.”

Hank Fraley(On Brady Quinn’s injury)- “I really did not know. He looked fine. If you didn’t say a word to me or anybody in this locker room, I don’t think any of us would even known. You have really got to ask him how he is feeling. He seemed fine and threw the ball fine.”

(On the struggles at home)- “It is really about execution. We always want to win at home. We just haven’t got it done at home this year and it’s a shame because it’s always fun winning at home. Your fans are always into it and stuff like that. We just haven’t executed well. We are working to change that. We are excited to be back home in front of our fans.”

Phil Dawson(On his kick on Monday night)- “That was a special one. Any time you make a kick to win that’s a big one and when you consider it was kind of a long one, Monday Night Football and a critical point in the season where this team desperately needed a victory. You mix all that together it’s a pretty special one. It’s very short lived, I am already feeling the heat trying to get ready for another one. I know if I go out there and duck hook one, I am right back to ground zero. It was very special. I think we enjoyed it, but I am already back to work.”

(On the weather)- “It is always a challenge. I have said it before, I am humbled every Sunday I come down to Cleveland Browns Stadium because you can’t take anything for granted. You have got to come ready to play each and every week. I am watching that weather channel and trying to get that forecast down and obviously be out there first thing Sunday morning, trying to get a feel for how the day is going to go.”

NEWS & NOTES

BROWNS ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL: The Browns will play back-to-back primetime games for the first time in club history. Cleveland fell to Denver 34-30 on Nov. 6 on Thursday Night Football on the NFL Network. The Browns are 18-25 overall in primetime games, with a 1-2 mark this season. The Browns are 14-12 on Monday Night Football and hold an 11-8 record at home. Earlier this season, this Browns rolled up 454 yards of net offense in a 35-14 victory over the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants on Oct. 13. WR Braylon Edwards set a career high with 154 yards on five receptions. DB Eric Wright returned an interception 94 yards in the fourth quarter to seal the Browns victory.

The Browns have five nationally televised regular season games during the 2008 campaign, including three Monday Night (ESPN) contests, one Sunday Night (NBC) game and one Thursday Night (NFL Network) contest. Previously, the most national primetime games that featured the Browns in a single-season were three during both the 1988 and 1989 seasons.

WINSLOW POSTS FIRST CAREER MULTI-TOUCHDOWN GAME: TE Kellen Winslow recorded his first multi-touchdown game of his career against Denver on Nov. 6. He scored his 10th career touchdown after a 5-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and his 11th career touchdown after a 16-yard reception in the second quarter. Winslow finished with 111 yards on 10 receptions. It marked the fourth 100-yard receiving game of his career.

DAWSON HITS FROM 50+ IN BACK TO BACK GAMES: K Phil Dawson connected on a career high 54-yard field goal against the Ravens on Nov. 2 and added a 52-yard field goal the following week against the Broncos on Nov. 6. It marked the first time that a Browns kicker has connected on 50-plus yard field goals in back-to-back games since Matt Stover accomplished the feat during the 1991 season.

DAWSON ONE SHY OF 200 FOR HIS CAREER: With 17 field goals this season, K Phil Dawson has made 199 career field goals. Dawson sits at third on the Browns career field goal list as Don Cockroft ranks second with 216 career field goals and Lou Groza leads the list with 234 field goals. In addition to his 199 field goals, Dawson has totaled 252 extra points and one rushing touchdown for 855 career points, which also ranks third on the Browns all-time list.

BROWNS ‘SHOP TILL YOU DROP’ ON TUESDAY, NOV. 18 AT TEAM SHOP: The Browns are hosting a special autograph session with Joshua Cribbs, Shaun Rogers and Eric Wright at the Team Shop at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Come meet some of your favorite Browns players and enjoy special discounts on merchandise and stadium tours as well.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOMJamal Lewis(On the team rebounding)- “I am very confident. I think we’ve got a group of guys that are willing to fight and want to go out there and get it done. We have got to go out there like I’ve every week and just execute and just do what coach preaches and that’s finish.”

(On Buffalo’s defense)- “They remind me a lot of a Washington defense. It’s a stout defense, you don’t have any big names that jump out at you, but you have a group of guys that are playing together collectively, finishing and just flying around. They have got a lot of high motor guys and I think they are pretty much a solid defense with everybody trying to do their job.”

Brady Quinn(On what is different in his second week as starter)- “We have got a little more time to prepare. Buffalo is a tough team, solid defense all around. It presents a tough task not only for myself coming into my second start, but for our team going into an environment like Buffalo on Monday night.”

(On playing back to back prime time games in his first two starts)- “It feels a little bit like college, you get a little more attention. I have been used to that since playing college ball so not much has changed.”

(On how he benefitted from sitting a year and a half)- “The speed of the game, I think coming into it a year and a half later as apposed to right away I was able to adapt. It wasn’t even an adjustment. It was as if I had been doing it all along. That was one of the nice things about it. Having that year and a half under my belt, I was able to get right in there and play.”

Kellen Winslow(On the team)- “We are 3-6 and we just have to rally back and see what we can do from here. We don’t feel good where we are right now but heading into the schedule we are fine. We are going to get going here. We just haven’t finished the last couple games.”

(On Jamal Lewis’ comments)- “Jamal (Lewis) doesn’t say much and when he does say something people listen. I just think everybody was frustrated. It’s just disappointing how the season has gone so far for us. I just think guys are frustrated.”

Phil Dawson(On last year’s game with Buffalo)- “I don’t know how it could have gotten much more difficult then it was. Snow everywhere, not only coming down but already on the ground. You couldn’t see the field. The wind was just ridiculous. It was cold, it wasn’t quite as cold as some of the other ones we have had here, but when you mix all that together it was a pretty brutal day.”

(On his field goals against Buffalo last season)- “I got lucky. I tried to clear off a spot, but even with that the ground underneath the snow was frozen. It was a crapshoot at best. We got lucky. I wish I could sit here and say I had it all planned out, prepared for it and this and that, but sometimes you go out there and try your best. Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don’t and they went in that day.”

(On when he knew his 49-yard field goal was good last year against Buffalo)- “When the referees put their hands up. You really didn’t know what the ball was going to do in the air. I knew I hit it well, but that didn’t guarantee it would go through. To be honest, I was having a hard time seeing it when it crossed through. The snow was coming down so I just stared at the referees and when they (put their hands up), I knew it was good.”

NEWS & NOTES

DEFENSE GETTING TURNOVERS:With a +6 turnover ratio, the Browns rank tied for fourth in the NFL. Cleveland has totaled nine interceptions on the season with DB Eric Wright leading the squad with three. Cleveland has also recovered four fumbles.

The Cleveland defense ranks 10th in the league in passing yards allowed per game with an average of 195.0 per contest. In addition, David Garrard is the only quarterback to throw more than one TD pass vs. Cleveland.

ROGERS TURNING HEADS: DL Shaun Rogers has made a huge impact in his first season a member of the Browns. Rogers ranks third on the club overall and leads all defensive lineman with 32 total tackles (22 solo and 8 asst.). Rogers leads the squad with 3.5 sacks, and has added 2 TFL, 10 QB pressures and one blocked field goal.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Browns return to the friendly confines of Cleveland Browns Stadium for four of its next five games. The Browns are 1-2 at home on the season. In 2007, the Browns set a franchise record with a 7-1 mark at home.

ANDERSON INCREASES STREAK: QB Derek Anderson extended his streak of passing attempts without an interception to 105, his career best. Anderson ranks as the seventh longest current streak in the NFL at 105. His last interception came against Cincinnati on Sept. 28. His previous career best was 92 attempts spanning from Nov. 4 against Seattle to Nov. 18 at Baltimore during the 2007 season.

LONGEST CURRENT STREAKS / CONSECUTIVE ATTEMPTS WITHOUT THROWING AN INTERCEPTION Total Player Team1. 252 Jason Campbell Washington2. 203 Todd Collins Washington3. 151 David Garrard Jacksonville4. 133 Cleo Lemon Jacksonville5. 116 Kyle Orton Chicago6. 111 Jeff Garcia Tampa Bay7. 105 Derek Anderson Cleveland

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM

Jamal Lewis(On facing his former team)- “It’s always special playing against the Ravens because they have got all of the guys I played with. There are a few guys I left behind when I was there so it is good to go back and see those guys and actually play against them. It’s fun.”

(On getting 100 yards rushing vs. Baltimore)- “I’d like to get 100 period. I haven’t got 100 yet this year. I don’t care who it’s against honestly. That’s what we strive for. I know if I can get yards this offense is doing well during the game. It’s not about the numbers. It’s about executing and going out there and doing what we are supposed to do as a team. That is what we need to do to really rebound off last week and do the same things as far as playing as a team all the way across the board offense, defense and special teams. That is the key.”

Kellen Winslow(On what the Ravens defense does well)- “They are a 3-4 team. They overload a side. They zone-dog with coverage behind it to confuse the offense and get to the quarterback and try to force them into mistakes.”

(On the magnitude of this game)- “This is a huge game. We can win the division game get to .500 and go from there. If we go to 3-5 we are behind in the division. We need to catch up right now. We need this game.”

Eric Steinbach(On the struggles at the goal line)- “At the beginning of the year the offense wasn’t clicking and the last couple weeks with the goal line situation we haven’t had a chance to punch it in. This week, I hope we get another opportunity to get down to the goal line, I know we will be excited to get that ball ran in there and score early so we don’t have to sit there for five minutes during a goal line stand and try to call four or five plays.”

(On what the Ravens defense does well)- “Getting teams backed up and feeding off of offense’s mistakes. It’s not really magic or special plays that they are calling, if an offense gets backed up or they cause a turnover then you will see Ray Lewis pumping up the defense and getting them all riled up, especially at their place. I think it is an advantage for us obviously to be a home this time and get our crowd into it. If we can just move those chains and get positive yards early on those third down situations won’t be like they were the first time around up at their place.”

INJURY REPORT

CLEVELAND: OUT (WILL NOT PLAY): DT Shaun Smith (hand); DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN PRACTICE: S Mike Adams (hamstring), RB Jamal Lewis (not injury related), LB Shantee Orr (foot), G Ryan Tucker (knee), DE Corey Williams (shoulder); LIMITED PARTICIPATION IN PRACTICE: TE Steve Heiden (pectoral).

JACKSONVILLE:OUT (WILL NOT PLAY): WR Mike Walker (knee); LIMATED PARTIPATION IN PRACTICE: DT John Henderson (hamstring), DT Rob Meier (knee), G Tutan Reyes (knee). NEWS & NOTES

BROWNS TO HONOR HALL OF FAME OFFENSIVE GUARD GENE HICKERSON: The Browns will honor Hall of Fame offensive guard Gene Hickerson by wearing a sticker on the back, lower left of the helmet next to the NFL Shield for the remainder of the season. The round sticker will be black and have GH in white lettering.

Hickerson passed away Monday at the age of 73. Hickerson joined the Browns as a seventh-round draft choice out of Mississippi in 1957. His 15-year career, all with the Browns (1958-60, 1962-73), ended in 1973 as he played in 202 games, which ranks fourth highest in franchise history, including a streak of 165 consecutive games, which also ranks fifth longest in team annals. He appeared in six Pro Bowls (1966-71) and was voted an all-league selection on five occasions (1966-70). Hickerson was named the NFL’s most outstanding blocker in 1969 and throughout his career was part of an offensive line that paved the way for three Hall of Famers, legendary running backs Jim Brown, Bobby Mitchell and Leroy Kelly.

“Everyone associated with the Cleveland Browns is saddened by his loss,” said Browns Head Coach Romeo Crennel. “His tenacity as a blocker and toughness as a player epitomized what it is to be a Cleveland Brown. We send our thoughts, prayers and condolences to the Hickerson family.”

ALLOWING 14 OR FEWER: Cleveland has allowed 14 or fewer points in four of its six games in 2008. Last season, the Browns defense allowed 14 or fewer points in three games. The Browns defense ranks seventh in the league in points allowed with an average of 17.7 points per game.

SCORELESS STREAK SNAPPED: The Browns posted back-to-back scoreless halves in the second half against the Giants on Oct. 13 and in the first half against Washington on Oct. 19. After WR Plaxico Burress scored on a 3-yard pass from Eli Manning with 12 seconds remaining in the second quarter, the Browns went 62:44 without allowing a point until RB Clinton Portis found the end zone on a 3-yard run with 12:28 in the third quarter.

HALL LEADS NFL ROOKIES: Seventh-round pick LB Alex Hall has had a strong showing in his first NFL season. Hall recorded a sack in three consecutive games at Baltimore on Sept. 21, at Cincinnati on Sept. 28 and vs. the New York Giants on Oct. 13. With his three sacks, Hall leads all NFL rookies in sacks.

JONES SETS CAREER HIGH: DB Sean Jones made an impact in his first game back after missing the previous four contests due to a knee injury. The fifth-year pro recorded a career high 16 total tackles (10 solo and 6 asst.) at Washington on Oct. 19. His previous career high was 13 against Cincinnati on Sept. 17, 2006.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM

Derek Anderson(On not having Winslow this Sunday)- “We didn’t have him versus New York and we were able to get some things done. I think (Steve) Heiden, (Darnell) Dinkins and Martin (Rucker) are all good players and can hopefully fill the void.”

(On the importance of this game)- “We are struggling a little bit. It is a big game for us. Like we have talked about, everyone in our division has to play all of these teams too and a lot of those guys haven’t even got to some of the more difficult games. It is a big game for us.”

Joshua Cribbs(On the Kellen Winslow situation)- “This is the NFL. They own us, we are products to the NFL. We are bound by certain rules to keep the integrity of not only the NFL, but the team and sometimes things will be said in the heat of the moment, taken out of context, or the wrong way emotionally but what’s done is done. We talked with him as a team and as individuals and his head is in the right place right now. Kellen always says what he feels, he speaks his mind and he is good person. He has a lot of emotion and he brings that same emotion to the game so we can’t fault him in that. We have advised him to keep it amongst the team, he understands and he is going to own up to everything like a man and that is what he is doing. ”

(On the Jacksonville game)- “Knowing that we will not have (Kellen Winslow) out there we know we have got to play ever harder. We want our guys to come in and pick up the slack where he left. The ship doesn’t stop because of one guy, it gets stronger with him, but it doesn’t stop. We are going to keep going forward and keep fighting.”

Jamal Lewis(On the Jaguars defense)- “They are a good defense, I have played Jacksonville a couple times. They are just a hardnosed defense. Jack Del Rio, I played him in Baltimore and I kind of know his intensity and what he is going to bring to this defense. He will have them fired up and ready. They are just a solid defense all the way across the board, big guys up front and they have a good front seven. I think they will play with the safety down a little bit and try to get eight in the box some way, but if we go out and execute, do our job and be consistent in what we do, we will be alright.”

(On Sunday’s game)- “Every game is important, because it is the next one it is important. We just have to go out there and do our job and that is pretty much it. We can’t think about what will happen if, 2-5 and all of that, we just have to just go out there do our job, play hard, play as a team and pull this thing together like we know it can be.”

Hank Fraley(On the importance of this week’s game)- “We really can’t afford to keep losing, we all know that. There are a couple teams that have kind of separated themselves from the pack. There’s a lot of teams that are 4-3, 3-3 and 2-4 so it a big hill for us to stay there and try to get to 3-4, to stay with the pack and don’t keep getting pushed back behind the leader. It’s definitely a big game for us in Jacksonville. It’s an AFC game, we know when it comes down to the end there is a lot of tie breakers at stake. They also know the whole situation so we have to go down there and win this week.”

(On the team’s inconsistency)- “I feel like it has been more the offense then the rest of the team. Offensively we are just missing and it’s a shame. It takes 11 guys on offense to get the job done and we haven’t been consistent all 11 of us. It has always been a thing here or there offensively. It’s all about that inch, and if you are an inch off it just doesn’t like right. That’s what all of our losses have been and our win it was right on. It is easier said than done but it is all about that inch and being consistent all 11 of us.”

NEWS & NOTES

BROWNS ACCOMPLISH RARE FEAT: In the Browns 35-14 win over the Giants last Monday night, Browns P Dave Zastudil enjoyed a quiet evening. The Browns offense did not have to punt, did not commit a turnover or allow a sack for the first time in club history. Since 1963, when sacks were officially recorded, there have only been four NFL games where an offense has not allowed a sack, committed a turnover or had to register a punt in a regular season game. Below are the four games:

  Cleveland October 13, 2008

  NY Jets December 19, 2004

  Tampa Bay November 1, 1998

  San Francisco December 19, 1993

Also, the last game the Browns did not have to punt in the contest was Nov. 5, 1995 vs. Houston.

WRIGHT NAMED AFC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: DB Eric Wright was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Wright had three solo tackles, two passes defensed and one interception returned for a touchdown in Monday Night’s 35-14 win over the New York Giants. In the contest, Wright’s fourth quarter interception sealed the victory as his 94-yard interception return for a touchdown turned a 13 point advantage into the 35-14 final. The interception return also was the fourth longest in club history.

Wright currently is tied for fourth in the NFL with three interceptions. In five games this season, Wright ranks third overall on the club with 25 tackles, including 21 solo, leads the team with three interceptions and is tied for first on the club with four passes defensed.
